  • Images of offerings

You will get to add these at each stage of the account setup.

 

And don’t worry if you don’t have some information on hand right now; you’ll be able to go back and update it whenever you like.

 

Tip: I would encourage you to include keywords in your business description. Google has never confirmed that it will help (like most things), but it’s a best-practice strategy I consistently implement.

2. Get Google Reviews To Your New Profile

Now that your GBP profile is set (or now actually optimised), its time to get Google reviews to this profile.

 

Why is this such a good electrician SEO strategy?

 

Because these amazing reviews will appear on the SERPs when people search for a business like yours

 

Helping to encourage other prospects to pick up the phone.

In addition, Google also considers these reviews when deciding whether to rank your electrician website on the SERPs.

 

So, it actually improves your SEO efforts, too.

 

You should then encourage past clients to leave reviews by emailing them or giving them written instructions on how to do so.

That way, you can really see what your prospects are looking at and can make changes accordingly.

 

Site running poorly?

 

It could be a theme or server issue, or you may just have an outdated plugin installed.

 

I would 100% recommend getting help from a web designer rather than fumbling around yourself.

Tip: The more steps it takes to contact your businesses, the less likely potential customers will use them.

Keyword Research

I’ve already touched on keywords and what they actually are on this page.
 
But how do you go through the conducting keyword research process?
 
So you can optimise your website for the most relevant, hot-hot-hot search queries your prospects are searching for, to ensure SEO success?
 
Well, there are a few different SEO tools you can use that I’ll cover first.

After that, I’ll get into how to effectivity use keyword search terms so you can rank higher, beating other reputable websites in the process.
 
I’ll start with my fave, using Semrush:

Go to your Semrush account and click over to Keyword Overview.
 
Then, enter a keyword you THINK (no data yet, so we have to start from your brain power) that your prospects will be looking for.
 
In this case, I will search “Electrician Redcar.”

As you can see, this keyword has 90 searches per month.
 
Pretty good.

I’ll talk about his aspect later.
 
Another great thing about Semrush is that it also provides alternative keyword suggestions.
 
Sometimes, a better keyword will appear, matching your target audience much more.

Feel free to use this instead.

Try Google Suggest (This one is Free)

You can also use Google’s Suggest feature to see what keywords people search for when they start typing in a search query.
 
This isn’t a fancy tool; it’s just a part of your usual Google search, but it works.
 
The logic is that if it comes up in the little search window, then it must have some weight to be a keyword people use when looking for services like yours.
 
Start typing in a relevant keyword and see what suggestions Google gives you.

Keyword Surfer Chrome Extension

Keyword Surfer Chrome extension is another easy tool to use.

 

All you need to do is go to this Chrome page to install it.

 

Once it is activated (ensure you have done so in the extension setting of your Chrome)

You just need to search for anything on Google, and a little box will appear on the right side with alternative keyword suggestions and estimated volumes.

Also, ensure you’re getting data that is relevant to your country.

Apart from video testimonials, prominently display customer reviews and testimonials throughout your site.
 
This social proof can significantly influence new visitors’ decisions by showcasing the reliability and quality of your services.
 
Especially since it’s from someone who isn’t connected to the business.
 
You can big up your plumbing business all you like, but people will ignore it – seeing what past customers say.

What To Do With the Keywords; On-page Optmisiation

Now that we’ve got the keywords,

 

It’s time to tell you what to do with them.

 

Note: Doing this right helps search engines understand your electrical companies web pages.

 

As you already know, On-page SEO is a set of techniques you can use directly on your website to improve your search engine rankings and attract more potential clients.

 

Here are some key places you should add your chosen keywords, as well as other on-page SEO methods you should use:

  1. Optimise Your Title Tags: Make sure each website page has a unique and descriptive title with relevant keywords. For example, “Emergency Electrician in [City Name] – 24/7 Service”.

  2. Meta Descriptions: Craft compelling meta descriptions for each page. These descriptions should briefly overview your services and include keywords that potential clients might use to find you, like “licensed residential electrician“ or “commercial electrical repairs”.

  3. Header Tags: Use header tags (H1, H2, etc.) to structure your website content clearly. Your H1 should include your main keyword and highlight the primary service on that page, such as “Reliable Electrical Installations”.

  4. Keyword Optimisation (& NLPs): Integrate relevant keywords (not just your main keyword) naturally into your content, especially those specific to the electrical industry and your local area. However, avoid overusing keywords to the point of sounding unnatural.

  5. High-Quality Content: Publish high-quality, informative content (in the form of blog posts and pages) that addresses common electrical issues, how-tos, and the services you provide. Content that establishes your authority and expertise can attract more visitors and convert them into customers. Most electrician websites do not feature any kind of content, so you’re one step ahead when you hit publish – even if you are a poor writer.

  6. Optimise Images: Ensure that all images on your site are optimised for speed and accessibility. Use descriptive file names and alt text with relevant keywords, such as “certified-electrician-checking-wiring”.

  7. Internal Linking: Use internal links to help visitors navigate your website and to help search engines understand the structure of your site. Link to relevant pages where appropriate, like your service pages or contact information.

Acquire Quality Backlinks

Backlinks are links from other websites to your website.
 
This is an important ranking factor for SEO, showing that your web content is popular and relevant.
 
It acts as a ‘green light’ signal when other websites connect (link) to yours, a thumbs up, like YEP! This site rocks.
 
Therefore, the more backlinks you have from other websites, the higher you’re likely to rank on SERPs.
 
Although, they NEED to be relevant
 
And can’t be obtained by purchasing.
 
So, what’s the best way to get backlinks?

Guest Posting

Guest posting is what it says on the tin.
 
Write posts on other people’s blogs and get a backlink from them.
 
That way, you provide value, get your name in front of a new audience, and get a backlink.
 
And the webmaster gets a fresh piece of high-quality content for free.
 
Win-Win
 
To find such opportunities, all you need to do is;
 
Search “Electricians + Write For Us” on Google to find opportunities.

Then, when you find one that’s fitting, reach out and pitch at least a few ideas.

 

(Ideally, you would have these content pieces pre-written for ease, but don’t worry about that for now)

 

And once an idea is accepted, create something great for their website.

 

Tip: I would avoid anyone asking for money to guest post. This is not a bad deal but because there are thousands of free opportunities.

Broken Link Building

Another great strategy to get backlinks to your site is broken link building.

 

It works like this;

 

Use tools like Broken Link Checker to find websites with links to outdated or non-functional content.

 

You can then approach these websites and propose providing a working link.

 

Once accepted, you then create a piece of content to fill this content gap on their site.

 

Earning yourself a backlink

 

Website owners love this as you’re improving the overall state of their website.

Create Link Bait

Lastly, we have link bait.

 

This newer SEO technique has emerged in the last few years. It involves creating high-quality content that people will have no choice but to link to.

 

Now, it’s not the ‘high quality‘ content I’ve spoken about before

 

Although that will get links naturally

 

I’m talking about data-driven content, which is considered ‘useful’.

 

Here’s how you can effectively create link bait for your electrician’s website:

 

  1. Infographics: Develop infographics visually representing useful statistics or facts about electrical safety, energy efficiency, or how-tos on simple electrical fixes. Infographics are highly shareable and can generate links from a variety of sources.

  2. Videos and Tutorials: Create tutorial videos that teach viewers basic electrical tasks, such as resetting circuit breakers or checking for faulty wiring. Well-produced videos can be link magnets, especially if they clarify complex subjects.

You can also see where your site might be going wrong from a technical SEO point of view.

 

If you want to get really nerdy, you can even check page by page to really examine what might be holding your local SEO campaigns back.

Semrush

Back to my favourite tool.

 

Yes, it is a paid tool, but the reason why it’s better than Search Console and Google Analytics (which I’ll talk about in a minute)

GA4 is a free tool that allows you to track your website’s traffic and performance.

When set up properly, you can use it to track search engine traffic to your website, where this organic traffic is coming from (geographically), what device people are using, how long they stay on the page, and where they go after they’ve found you.
 
It goes on and on.
 
GA4 can be your best data tracking tool by far.
