Not interested in learning cause you’ve got better things to do, like run your electrician business?
Hire me as your local SEO expert, and I’ll get you ranked on Google so you can attract more paying customers, no matter if you’re a business owner or you’re one of the many electrical contractors out there.
Anyway, if you’re sticking around
Let’s get to it:
Being a great electrician is essential, but it’s not enough to consistently land new clients—especially beyond word-of-mouth.
Imagine a strategy that works 24/7 to bring in leads, year-round, no matter what.
Sound too good to be true?
It’s not.
Enter local SEO.
Local SEO makes your business visible to people searching for services in your area—like “Redcar electricians” or “electricians Redcar.”
With the right approach, your site can outrank competitors and secure those crucial clicks.
At its core, local SEO ensures your website appears prominently when potential clients search for electricians in your area.
This involves:
Nearly 100% of consumers research online before making local purchases.
On average, they consult seven sources before deciding, and a staggering 78% never scroll past the first page of Google.
Without a strong online presence, you risk being invisible to potential customers.
Dominating the digital space means dominating the competition.
People in your area are actively searching for services like yours with terms like “electricians near me.”
These are hot leads with high intent—users ready to hire.
If you’re not ranking for these local searches, you’re leaving money on the table.
And trust me, your competitors won’t let it sit there for long.
SEO isn’t just an online strategy;
Tt’s the strategy for trades businesses.
Compared to other digital marketing methods, SEO offers significantly higher returns on investment.
Unlike paid ads, where the flow of traffic stops the moment you stop spending, SEO keeps delivering results long after the initial investment.
When your site ranks well on Google, the benefits are continuous.
With consistent but minimal fine-tuning, you’ll stay ahead of competitors and remain the go-to option for your audience.
SEO’s long-term impact sets it apart from paid ads.
If you stop investing in ads, your visibility vanishes.
But with SEO, your hard work compounds over time, ensuring a steady stream of traffic and leads.
The way people search, shop, and choose services has evolved.
Without a solid SEO strategy, your business risks missing out on massive opportunities.
But don’t worry—SEO doesn’t have to be complicated.
Let’s start with the basics:
On-page SEO refers to the strategy of all the things you can do on your website to ensure you get the rankings you need on Google so that your business can thrive in your local service area.
There are many on-page SEO strategies, but I’ll get more into this in a second when I walk you through a complete electrical SEO strategy.
For now, here are a few to keep at the forefront of your mind:
Optimising your title tags and meta descriptions: Incorporating your target keyword in the meta description is crucial for attracting online users to click on your search results. It improves readability for both humans and search engine robots.
Adding keyword-rich content to your website
Ensuring you upload high-quality, descriptive images
Linking web pages together that are useful (so your readers can digest more of your fantastic content strategy)
Quick loading pages
…and much more.
Off-page SEO involves strategies you use outside of your electrical services website to help improve your position in Google’s search rankings.
These methods include:
Building backlinks from other websites
Earning Google reviews
Collaborating on guest posts and articles
SERPs is an acronym for search engine results pages.
These are the pages that show up when you enter any sort of search query on Google.
As I’ve explained, this is where you’d want your website to be if you wish to do new business for your electrical company.
Enough of the intros; here’s how to actually do SEO for your electrical businesses.
Now it’s time to show a complete SEO for electricians strategy.
Hiring an SEO agency can offer peace of mind, expert SEO handling, and the ability to manage critical SEO-related situations. But you don’t need a huge marketing agency, you just need me!
Let’s dive in:
The most crucial SEO strategy to enhance local SEO for your electrician business is to create and optimise your Google Business Profile (GBP).
If prospects search for services like yours in their area, this free listing appears at the very top of the SERPs, just after the Ads section (if there are any).
Creating a Google My Business Profile is easy, and it’s free!
Not bad for something that can help improve your online visibility and bring you in paying customers every month, is it?
Like your own personal Ads Man.
To start, go to business.google.com and follow the instructions to create your GBP.
You’ll want to include as much information as you can;
NAPs (Business Name, Address, Phone Number)
Where You do business
What your business is all about
The services you provide
Images of offerings
You will get to add these at each stage of the account setup.
And don’t worry if you don’t have some information on hand right now; you’ll be able to go back and update it whenever you like.
Tip: I would encourage you to include keywords in your business description. Google has never confirmed that it will help (like most things), but it’s a best-practice strategy I consistently implement.
Now that your GBP profile is set (or now actually optimised), its time to get Google reviews to this profile.
Why is this such a good electrician SEO strategy?
Because these amazing reviews will appear on the SERPs when people search for a business like yours
Helping to encourage other prospects to pick up the phone.
In addition, Google also considers these reviews when deciding whether to rank your electrician website on the SERPs.
So, it actually improves your SEO efforts, too.
You should then encourage past clients to leave reviews by emailing them or giving them written instructions on how to do so.
Note: Offering incentives to leave Google reviews IS against Google guidelines.
…although some businesses still do it.
😉
Another critical factor you should consider when doing SEO for your website is ensuring it is mobile-friendly, i.e., optimised for mobile phone usage.
Your website MUST look good AND perform well on smartphone devices (& tablets)
Otherwise, you’re going to be missing out on potential clients.
How many?
Well, as of 2024;
“As of June 2024, mobile device users contribute 61.35% of all website traffic.
Back in 2011, this figure sat at 6.1%. In 2015, this was up to 37.2%.
The percentage of people accessing the internet via mobile devices has increased year-over-year. Q1 2017 was the first time mobile traffic surpassed traffic from desktop computers.”

So essentially, every 2/3 of people who visit your website are on mobile devices.
That is why you have no choice but to ensure you provide a streamlined experience for these users.
To see if your website is mobile-friendly from a page-speed point of view, I would use Page Speed Insights.
(You can also check how your site runs on a desktop)
If you want to know how your website looks on a mobile device, I recommend testing it on your phone.
Or enter your URL into Google’s Mobile-Friendly Test tool.
That way, you can really see what your prospects are looking at and can make changes accordingly.
Site running poorly?
It could be a theme or server issue, or you may just have an outdated plugin installed.
I would 100% recommend getting help from a web designer rather than fumbling around yourself.
Tip: The more steps it takes to contact your businesses, the less likely potential customers will use them.
I’ve already touched on keywords and what they actually are on this page.
But how do you go through the conducting keyword research process?
So you can optimise your website for the most relevant, hot-hot-hot search queries your prospects are searching for, to ensure SEO success?
Well, there are a few different SEO tools you can use that I’ll cover first.
After that, I’ll get into how to effectivity use keyword search terms so you can rank higher, beating other reputable websites in the process.
I’ll start with my fave, using Semrush:
Go to your Semrush account and click over to Keyword Overview.
Then, enter a keyword you THINK (no data yet, so we have to start from your brain power) that your prospects will be looking for.
In this case, I will search “Electrician Redcar.”
Go to your Semrush account and click over to Keyword Overview.
Then, enter a keyword you THINK (no data yet, so we have to start from your brain power) that your prospects will be looking for.
In this case, I will search “Electrician Redcar.”
As you can see, this keyword has 90 searches per month.
Pretty good.
That potentially 90 new clients to your business EVERY MONTH once your site is optimised for this keyword
I’ll talk about his aspect later.
Another great thing about Semrush is that it also provides alternative keyword suggestions.
Sometimes, a better keyword will appear, matching your target audience much more.
Feel free to use this instead.
You can also use Google’s Suggest feature to see what keywords people search for when they start typing in a search query.
This isn’t a fancy tool; it’s just a part of your usual Google search, but it works.
The logic is that if it comes up in the little search window, then it must have some weight to be a keyword people use when looking for services like yours.
Start typing in a relevant keyword and see what suggestions Google gives you.
Keyword Surfer Chrome extension is another easy tool to use.
All you need to do is go to this Chrome page to install it.
Once it is activated (ensure you have done so in the extension setting of your Chrome)
You just need to search for anything on Google, and a little box will appear on the right side with alternative keyword suggestions and estimated volumes.
Also, ensure you’re getting data that is relevant to your country.
Apart from video testimonials, prominently display customer reviews and testimonials throughout your site.
This social proof can significantly influence new visitors’ decisions by showcasing the reliability and quality of your services.
Especially since it’s from someone who isn’t connected to the business.
You can big up your plumbing business all you like, but people will ignore it – seeing what past customers say.
Now that we’ve got the keywords,
It’s time to tell you what to do with them.
Note: Doing this right helps search engines understand your electrical companies web pages.
As you already know, On-page SEO is a set of techniques you can use directly on your website to improve your search engine rankings and attract more potential clients.
Here are some key places you should add your chosen keywords, as well as other on-page SEO methods you should use:
SEO companies play a crucial role in on-page optimisation by researching, comparing, and customizing plans to fit unique business needs.
Optimise Your Title Tags: Make sure each website page has a unique and descriptive title with relevant keywords. For example, “Emergency Electrician in [City Name] – 24/7 Service”.
Meta Descriptions: Craft compelling meta descriptions for each page. These descriptions should briefly overview your services and include keywords that potential clients might use to find you, like “licensed residential electrician“ or “commercial electrical repairs”.
Header Tags: Use header tags (H1, H2, etc.) to structure your website content clearly. Your H1 should include your main keyword and highlight the primary service on that page, such as “Reliable Electrical Installations”.
Keyword Optimisation (& NLPs): Integrate relevant keywords (not just your main keyword) naturally into your content, especially those specific to the electrical industry and your local area. However, avoid overusing keywords to the point of sounding unnatural.
High-Quality Content: Publish high-quality, informative content (in the form of blog posts and pages) that addresses common electrical issues, how-tos, and the services you provide. Content that establishes your authority and expertise can attract more visitors and convert them into customers. Most electrician websites do not feature any kind of content, so you’re one step ahead when you hit publish – even if you are a poor writer.
Optimise Images: Ensure that all images on your site are optimised for speed and accessibility. Use descriptive file names and alt text with relevant keywords, such as “certified-electrician-checking-wiring”.
Internal Linking: Use internal links to help visitors navigate your website and to help search engines understand the structure of your site. Link to relevant pages where appropriate, like your service pages or contact information.
Backlinks are links from other websites to your website.
This is an important ranking factor for SEO, showing that your web content is popular and relevant.
It acts as a ‘green light’ signal when other websites connect (link) to yours, a thumbs up, like YEP! This site rocks.
Therefore, the more backlinks you have from other websites, the higher you’re likely to rank on SERPs.
Although, they NEED to be relevant
And can’t be obtained by purchasing.
So, what’s the best way to get backlinks?
Guest posting is what it says on the tin.
Write posts on other people’s blogs and get a backlink from them.
That way, you provide value, get your name in front of a new audience, and get a backlink.
And the webmaster gets a fresh piece of high-quality content for free.
Win-Win
To find such opportunities, all you need to do is;
Search “Electricians + Write For Us” on Google to find opportunities.
Then, when you find one that’s fitting, reach out and pitch at least a few ideas.
(Ideally, you would have these content pieces pre-written for ease, but don’t worry about that for now)
And once an idea is accepted, create something great for their website.
Tip: I would avoid anyone asking for money to guest post. This is not a bad deal but because there are thousands of free opportunities.
Another great strategy to get backlinks to your site is broken link building.
It works like this;
Use tools like Broken Link Checker to find websites with links to outdated or non-functional content.
You can then approach these websites and propose providing a working link.
Once accepted, you then create a piece of content to fill this content gap on their site.
Earning yourself a backlink
Website owners love this as you’re improving the overall state of their website.
Lastly, we have link bait.
This newer SEO technique has emerged in the last few years. It involves creating high-quality content that people will have no choice but to link to.
Now, it’s not the ‘high quality‘ content I’ve spoken about before
Although that will get links naturally
I’m talking about data-driven content, which is considered ‘useful’.
Here’s how you can effectively create link bait for your electrician’s website:
Infographics: Develop infographics visually representing useful statistics or facts about electrical safety, energy efficiency, or how-tos on simple electrical fixes. Infographics are highly shareable and can generate links from a variety of sources.
Videos and Tutorials: Create tutorial videos that teach viewers basic electrical tasks, such as resetting circuit breakers or checking for faulty wiring. Well-produced videos can be link magnets, especially if they clarify complex subjects.
Original Research and Data: If possible, conduct original research or surveys and share your findings. Original data and insights on energy consumption trends or the most common electrical issues in homes can earn citations and links from news outlets, bloggers, and industry peers.
Interactive Tools: Consider creating interactive tools like a home energy calculator or a tool that helps users identify common electrical issues based on symptoms. These tools provide practical value and can significantly boost engagement and backlinks.
Always track your local SEO performance over time. This will help you monitor progress and quickly identify problem areas that need fixing; so you can better perform in local searches.
There are a few ways to track your local SEO performance.
Let’s get into the easiest one to use first:
This is a free tool from Google, and the data it provides is very solid evidence of how well you’re doing, as it directly connects to your domain.
Google Search Console allows you to track impressions, clicks, ranking positions, and more across your site.
You can also see where your site might be going wrong from a technical SEO point of view.
If you want to get really nerdy, you can even check page by page to really examine what might be holding your local SEO campaigns back.
Back to my favourite tool.
Yes, it is a paid tool, but the reason why it’s better than Search Console and Google Analytics (which I’ll talk about in a minute)
That I can easily be your all-in-one SEO tool.
You can keep track of your local search performance.
Do keyword research here.
Check backlink analytics.
And much more.
But back to why it’s excellent for SEO performance
You can check what your competitors are getting up to so you can adjust your local campaign accordingly.
GA4 is a free tool that allows you to track your website’s traffic and performance.
When set up properly, you can use it to track search engine traffic to your website, where this organic traffic is coming from (geographically), what device people are using, how long they stay on the page, and where they go after they’ve found you.
It goes on and on.
GA4 can be your best data tracking tool by far.
Now it’s time to make a choice:
You could attempt to handle SEO yourself, managing it along with your other responsibilities as an electrician.
Or:
You could collaborate with a professional SEO company like mine, skilled in targeting and ranking for the most crucial electrician-related keywords.
The decision is, of course, yours to make.
Regardless of your choice:
Effective SEO for electricians starts with taking action.
Don’t delay—yesterday was the best time to begin optimising your site.
The next? Today.
Choosing me and my local SEO services means entrusting your electrician’s business to a local lad who genuinely cares about your success.

With real-world experience working with global brands, I bring a wealth of knowledge to the table, making conquering the local market a manageable task.
